As a result of his impressive form at Real Sociedad, most notably his excellent performance against his parent club Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey, speculations were quick to appear about Martin Odegaard’s potential early return from the two-year loan which began last summer. However, Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay is adamant that it won’t happen.
Real Madrid reportedly hinted to the Norwegian he wood soon get a chance in the first team and convinced him that way to sign for them back in January 2015, beating Manchester City to his services as the Premier League club made it clear it would be the case at the Etihad. After all, he was only 16 at the time.
But Real appear to have broken their promise. Odegaard initially played for their Castilla side and was later shipped out on loans to Heerenven and Vitesse, before joining Sociedad on another temporary deal, for two years. To this day, the 21-year-old has only two first-team appearances for Los Blancos.
Speaking to radio Cadena SER, Aperribay said his club are looking at the present right now and aren’t too troubled about the future, but he said there was ‘zero chance’ of Odegaard returning to the Santiago Bernabeu early.
