Real Sociedad will make a late attempt at signing Nacho Monreal from Arsenal before the transfer window closes, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Despite Monreal’s contract with Arsenal entering its final 12 months, it won’t be easy for the deal to be concluded. The left-back is a long-term wish of the La Liga side, and having already had contacts with him in the past, they are preparing to push forward with their plans to bring him to Anoeta.
The player has carefully listened to the proposal and he’s not opposed to the move, especially in the light of falling down the pecking order behind Sead Kolasinac and Kieran Tierney at the Emirates. However, Arsenal do have the option of an extension of his contract for a further year, and that is, at least at the moment, the greatest hurdle Sociedad need to overcome.
They have to hope that Arsenal, having two younger left-backs to rely on, won’t be making to much of a fuss about letting Monreal go.
