Former England international defender Sol Campbell on Tuesday signed a five-year deal with Notts County, where he teams up again with ex-England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Campbell, who has 73 caps for England and played in three World Cups, was free after the end of his contract with Portsmouth.
The defender, who turns 35 next month, turned down several offers from Premier League clubs to join Eriksson, Notts County’s new director of football.
The ambitious League Two club, who were taken over by middle east consortium Munto Finance this summer, unveiled the former Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth defender at a press conference at Meadow Lane on Tuesday.
Magpies manager Ian McParland said: “Sol’s record speaks for itself and he’s achieved just about everything in the game.
“He’s a great player and a great organiser and his experience will be invaluable to our push for promotion this season.
“We are very happy that he has taken on the challenge and we are looking forward to getting him settled into the team and seeing him pull on a Notts County shirt as soon as possible.”
Campbell, who was Portsmouth captain last season, has played 481 Premier League ties in his career with Tottenham (1992-2001), Arsenal (2001-2006) and Portsmouth (2006-2009).
He has won two Premier League titles, four English Cup titles and a League Cup trophy.
He also scored in the final of the 2006 Champions League final which Arsenal lost 2-1 to Barcelona.
