Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has called for a state of calm, despite his side’s humbling Champions League defeat at the hands of Dutch giants Ajax. Real surrendered their title as Champions of Europe as a result of the loss, bringing an end to their three-year stranglehold over the competition. Whilst Ajax have been heavily praised for knocking them out with their 4-1 win last night, the even bigger story has been Real’s capitulation.
Solari was brought into the Bernabeu to steady the ship following a disastrous start to the season for the club, but instead, things seem to have remained the same.
There’s been a great deal of speculation as to whether or not Solari will be sacked once the season comes to an end, and now that he cannot win the Champions League title, it’s starting to feel inevitable that there will be a new man on the touchline for Madrid next season.
