Although it was widely speculated in the summer that Mandzukic would be leaving his current side Juventus to join Manchester United, nothing came of it at the time. However, there are now fresh rumours on the topic, as Independent claims United are indeed interested in signing the Croatian international as well as Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele in the upcoming January transfer window.
The news comes amid United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s announcement that the club boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be given the financial support to take the club “back to the top”. After revealing the club’s record revenue of £627.1million, Woodward said the management and their growing fanbase demand success. While he also said the club have made other investments, and are confident these will eventually pay off, he signalled that they are willing to be patient with Solskjaer and let him and the team “build for the future”.
United had previously considered the 33-year-old Mandzukic, but given that his age seemed to be an issue, it is yet to be seen whether it is something that can be overcome. Barcelona have also let it known that they would be willing to part with Dembele, who would probably cost over £100m.
