Song linked with shock Liverpool switch

Liverpool are closing in on a surprise deal to sign ex-Arsenal man Alex Song from Barcelona, according to the Metro.

The Cameroon international has been told he can leave the Nou Camp this summer after a somewhat disappointing spell with the Catalan club.

The 26 year old midfielder was part of the squad that won the La Liga title in 2013, though he started just seventeen league games that campaign, and only twelve last season.

He made two appearances for the Indomitable Lions at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, where Volke Finke’s side lost all three of the games.

Song turned out over two hundred times for the Gunners in an eight year spell prior to his move to Spain, having begun his career with French side Bastia.

Liverpool begin the new campaign at home to Southampton on Sunday afternoon, and the home win can be backed at 1/3.
