Denmark have received a blow ahead of Euro 2012 with news goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen has been forced to withdraw from the squad with injury.
Morten Olsen’s side kick off their campaign on June 9 with a showdown against the Netherlands, but they will have to do it without their first-choice shot-stopper after the Stoke ‘keeper injured his back in their 3-1 friendly defeat to Brazil at the weekend.
“It was a tough decision to make, and it’s a severe handicap for us,” Olsen said.
“Sorensen is a fantastic and professional person to have in our squad, and his experience would have been just what we needed against some of the strongest teams in the world.”
The Denmark boss has made the decision to call up Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, son of Denmark and Manchester United legend Peter, as Sorensen’s replacement.
Denmark will also take on Germany and Portugal in the group stages.
