Colombian forward Fredy Montero scored in the 44th minute to help push the Seattle Sounders over the Philadelphia Union 2-0 in the Major League Soccer season opener.

American Brad Evans also found the net in the 12th minute for the hosts, who along with Toronto FC were the only clubs in the North American football league to turn a profit last season.

The Sounders have been a hit as an expansion club as has the Canadian club, a success the Union hope to duplicate in this, its inaugural season.
