South Korean attacking midfielder Park Chu-Young has signed for Monaco, the French first division club said on Monday.

The 23-year-old Park, previously with FC Seoul, left for France on Sunday and has now signed a four-year deal for a reported three million-dollar fee (2.04m euros).

The 2005 South Korean league top goal scorer is the fourth from this country to play in France.

Park, who was first capped for his country in 2005, is seen as one of the most talented young players in Asian football.

Monaco chairman Jerome de Bontin said of Park: “We had been in contact with his club for several months and we are very happy he has joined us.”

Coach Ricardo said: “He is a centre forward, very comfortable right in front of goal. He will need a little time to adapt to our league but I hope he will manage that quickly.”

Park, who speaks Portuguese having spent a year in Brazil, said: “After the Olympic Games, I played two matches with FC Seoul and I'm ready to play. I'm proud to be here. It was not me who picked this team, but the team which chose me.”

Monaco also signed Switzerland international and former Lyon defender Patrick Muller on a two-year deal and Nigerian defensive midfielder Sani Kaita from Sparta Rotterdam for three seasons.
