Southampton 17/20 to beat Newcastle in Sunday’s Premier League encounter

Competition: Premier League

Market: Southampton to beat Newcastle

Odds: 17/20 @ Bet365

The Premier League weekend continues with an intriguing encounter as Rafael Benitez’s men travel to play against Southampton on Sunday. While neither side is likely to be battling for the Champions League places, this game sees two sides that are likely to be looking to solidify their place in mid-table for the season to come.

The hosts come into this game on the back of two consecutive defeats which has seen them sink into the bottom half of the table. Eight points from seven games is simply not good enough for a side with the quality of Southampton, and the pressure is beginning to build upon the players and management following a poor run of form. Against a promoted side at home, the Saints simply cannot afford to lose.

The visitors, on the other hand, have been in very good form in their last five games. Three wins, a defeat and a draw has seen the Magpies rise to ninth in the table with 10 points, five points clear of Leicester City in 18th. Rafael Benitez’s men have built their success on their strong defence this campaign, with Jamaal Lascelles leading from the front. The game is likely to see two sides that are better defensively than they are at going forward, meaning goals are likely to be at a minimum. Even though Southampton have been struggling of late, they will back themselves to win at home. With this in mind, Bet365 are giving Southampton odds of 17/20 to beat Newcastle.
