Southampton 8/11 to score over 1.5 goals against West Ham in Saturday’s Premier League matchup

Competition: Premier League

Market: Southampton to score over 1.5 goals

Odds: 8/11 @ Bet 365

In what is a December six-pointer, Southampton will welcome fellow relegation scrappers West Ham to St. Mary’s on Saturday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Southampton may have suffered last gasp heartbreak and watched Newcastle snatch a 2-1 win in the North East last weekend, the Saints will be glad to make a return to home soil on Saturday. Landing their own back-to-back wins at St. Mary’s over Norwich and Watford, one man to keep an eye out for this weekend will be their red-hot leading marksman, Danny Ings. Once again finding the net at St. James’ Park last time out, the former Liverpool striker has remarkably now found the net in each of his last five Premier League matches on the bounce and also has 10 goals in his last 10 matches across all competitions.

As for the visitors, throwing away a one-goal lead against Arsenal on Monday night and watching the Gunners eventually come away with a 3-1 win, the mood in East London couldn’t be any lower. Winning just a single matchup in their last 11 attempts, it appears that another defeat on Saturday would bring an end to Manuel Pellegrini’s tenure. Showing some glaring defensive issues and once again shipping a trio of strikes earlier in the week, the Hammers have now shipped two or more goals in eight of their last 10 Premier League appearances. Given Southampton’s continued success in the final third, we’re backing another tricky evening for the downbeat Hammers.
