According to The Daily Mail, Southampton and Crystal Palace are interested in signing Danny Welbeck on a free transfer. The former Arsenal forward has been released by his club Watford, who are playing in the Championship this season after getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
Welbeck joined Watford in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer following his departure from Arsenal. According to WhoScored, the England international forward made eight starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Hornets last season, scoring two goals in the process.
The 29-year-old started his professional club football career at Manchester United and made 92 appearances in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals in the process. The forward moved to Arsenal in 2014, but he had injury problems and could not establish himself in the starting lineup before switching to Watford on a free transfer last summer.
