Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is confident of the club keeping hold of Danny Ings this summer, despite the reported interest from Manchester City.
City will be losing Sergio Aguero in two months as the Argentinian’s contract runs out, and though Pep Guardiola is certainly capable of getting his team to score goals without him, the Catalan tactician would still have one attacking option less at his disposal without signing a replacement. City have been heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, but Guardiola recently said the club probably won’t have enough money for a signing of such magnitude this summer.
Signing Ings from Southampton would certainly represent a more affordable course. Speaking to the press ahead of his team’s clash with Burnley, Hasenhuttl admitted it was always difficult for the Saints to keep hold of a player wanted by bigger clubs, but at the moment, he doesn’t see Ings leaving.
The 28-year-old former Liverpool striker has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur. His contract expires in 2022, but Hasenhuttl believes an agreement over a new one will be reached soon.
