The officiating in the Premier League came under the spotlight once more on Friday as Southampton and Leicester City shared the spoils with a goal apiece. Referee Robert Jones showed a straight red card to Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard for a tackle on Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy in the 10th minute.
There was certainly contact and Vardy would have been through had he not been stopped, but Vestergaard clearly played the ball first and unavoidably caught Vardy on the follow-up. Should VAR have overturned the decision? Many believe so.
