Southampton eye Brandon Williams on loan

Southampton are interested in signing Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams before the summer transfer window closes on Monday, according to Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 7:11pm, October 4, 2020). It has been reported that the Saints have made an enquiry about a loan deal, but United want to make sure that the 20-year-old gets playing time on his loan spell.

According to WhoScored, Williams made 11 starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for United last season, scoring one goal in the process, and he also played eight times in the Europa League.

Williams did well when he was called into action last season, but it is going to be hard for him to play regular first-team football this season. It would make sense for him to find a club in the Premier League to get decent playing time and then return to Old Trafford next summer a better and more mature player.
