Daily Mirror is reporting that Southampton are considering a January loan for West Ham forward Mauro Zarate.
The Saints manager Ronald Koeman plans to further reinforce his attack in the upcoming transfer window and has made the Argentine footballer one of his primary targets.
According to the Daily Mirror, Southampton hope to sign Zarate on a loan deal until the end of the season.
The Argentine started the season well after joining from Velez Sarsfield, but he has since lost his place in the side, with the likes of Carroll, Sakho and Valencia all in excellent form.
Zarate has scored two goals in seven Premier League outings this season in what is his second spell in England’s elite division.
The 27-year-old made 13 appearances for Birmingham City during the 2007/2008 season, and scored 4 goals in total.
Zarate has also represented Velez Sarsfield, Lazio and Inter Milan, but hasn’t quite managed to live up to his potential.
