Southampton are in talks with Danny Ings over a new contract, according to The Times. The former Liverpool striker has two years left on his current deal at the Saints, and the Premier League club reportedly want to hand him a new contract.
Ings joined Southampton on a season-long loan deal from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the summer of 2019. According to WhoScored, the 28-year-old striker made 23 starts and one substitute appearance in the league for the Saints, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in the process.
The loan deal was made permanent in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £20 million. During the 2019-20 campaign, Ings made 32 starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Southampton, scoring 22 goals and providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored. The Saints finished 11th in the Premier League table last season with 52 points from 38 matches.
