Southampton have placed a £40m price tag on Luke Shaw in a bid to deter interest from his potential suitors, according to the Mail Online.
New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal believed to have had a £30m deal in place for the teenager as he aims to rebuild his squad for his first season in the Premier League but Ronald Koeman, who was named as the Saints’ new manager last week, is keen to keep him at St Mary’s.
Shaw, who turns 19 in a fortnight, has made sixty top flight appearances for the South Coast club over the last two seasons, and his form saw him recognised by England manager Roy Hodgson, who included him in his squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.
The left back will win his third cap in what will be the Three Lions final game of the competition, as they take on Group D leaders Costa Rica in Belo Horizonte this evening.
