Premier League outfit Southampton have been showing interest in Sporting Lisbon centre-back Ruben Semedo, A Bola has learned.
The Saints scouts watched the youngster in action as he represented the Lions in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal, which is enough to suggest they could soon make their interest concrete.
Southampton have already done some business with Sporting CP of late, recruiting full-back Cedric Soares last summer.
As far as their latest target is concerned, Ruben Semedo is yet another excellent product of the club’s youth academy, and he was promoted to the first team set-up following successful loan stints with Reus Deportiu and Vitoria Setubal.
The 22-year-old started 13 league matches for the Lions last season, while making another substitute appearance, and he clearly did enough to catch the eye of the Premier League side.
Semedo, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, is a member of the Portugal Under-21 side.
