The Daily Star understand that Southampton are eyeing a move for Stoke City midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Saints recently named ex-Potters boss Mark Hughes as manager on a short-term deal with the Welshman being given the task of keeping the south-coast club in the top flight.
Stoke themselves are struggling to secure survival and could be set to number of their top players if they drop to the second tier – not least star man Shaqiri who signed from Inter Milan in the summer of 2015.
Since arriving in England the twenty-six year old has racked up eighty-five appearances in all competitions, scoring fourteen goals – half of which have come in the Premier League this season making him the club’s top scorer.
Internationally, he has been capped sixty-four times for Switzerland, scoring twenty times while he was part of the squads for the 2014 World Cup finals and Euro 2016.
