Southampton have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Argentina defender Marcos Rojo, according to the Daily Star.
The South Coast club are desperate to bring in a defender having lost Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers in recent weeks, and are keen to get one over the Reds, who have themselves signed three players from the Saints this summer.
Rojo was one of the star performers for Argentina at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil, playing in six of the South American sides games at the tournament, scoring his first international goal in the 3-2 win over Nigeria in the group stages.
At club level, he has been with Sporting for the past two seasons, turning out for them sixty-one times since signing from Spartak Moscow in the summer of 2012.
Liverpool face Southampton at Anfield two weeks on Sunday – the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.
