Southampton are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer, according to the Mirror.
The Saints are still on the lookout for a replacement for Jose Fonte, who joined West Ham United in January after seven years on the south coast while the future of fellow centre-back Virgil van Dijk remains the subject of much speculation.
Wimmer has emerged as one of their top targets though they are reluctant to meet Tottenham’s £20m valuation.
The Austria international signed from FC Koln two years ago but he has struggled to hold down a first team spot under Mauricio Pochetinno.
He played just ten league games in his first season with the North London outfit, while he didn’t even manage half as many appearances as they finished as runners-up last time around.
The twenty-four year old was an unused substitute as Austria drew 1-1 with Republic of Ireland last Sunday.
