Liverpool have had a £10m bid for Nathaniel Clyne rejected by Southampton, according to Sky Sports.
The Reds are looking to strengthen their squad after a disappointing campaign which culminated in them being thrashed 6-1 at Stoke City last Sunday – a result that saw them slip to sixth place.
With Glen Johnson set to move on to pastures new after six years at Anfield, right-back is one of a number of positions manager Brendan Rodgers is looking at, with Clyne their preferred choice.
However, they will need to make an improved offer if they are to have any chance of signing the former Crystal Palace man, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Since arriving at St Mary’s Stadium, Clyne has racked up over a hundred appearances in all competitions, while he won the first of his four England caps so far in a 3-1 Euro 2016 qualifying win over Slovenia back in November.
