Premier League high-flyers Southampton have reignited their interest in Cagliari defender Davide Astori, reports Daily Mirror.
The Saints had attempted to sign the Italy international last summer prior to wrapping up the deal for Dejan Lovren, but even with the Croatian impressing this season, the club are still showing interest in Astori.
Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino believes the two players can strike up an excellent defensive partnership and he is set to make a move on Astori in January.
Cagliari have so far managed to hold on to their star player in spite of the heavy interest from top Italian sides, but it is believed a £10 million bid would prove sufficient to prize the defender away from Stadio Is Arenas.
Southampton have enjoyed one of their best starts to a Premier League campaign, having climbed to sixth place in the standings, with Saints 7/1 to achieve a top 6 finish this season.
