Premier League outfit Southamton will soon complete the signing of Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres, according to BBC Sport.
The 29-year-old will join the club on a free transfer once he receives a UK work permit and will probably sign until the end of the season.
Caceres has been a free agent since leaving Juventus in the summer, and he was heavily linked with a move to AC Milan in the past couple of weeks.
However, he has agreed to join Southampton and will provide cover at centre-back after Jose Fonte left the club and Virgil van Dijk picked up a serious ankle injury.
Capped 77 times by Uruguay, Caceres is equally adept at centre-back, left-back or right-back and his versatility is likely to prove an asset for Claude Puel.
The fact that the Uruguayan last played a competitive game over a year ago did not seem to put off the Saints from securing his signature.
