Premier League strugglers Southampton looked set to acquire Spartak Moscow star Quincy Promes on deadline day, instilling a sense of optimism and hope around St. Mary’s for the back end of the season. Unfortunately however that deal never materialised, despite a reported £25m bid.
That is not to say that the Saints aren’t still keen on the winger however, and they will reignite their interest once the summer transfer window opens, according to the Mail. The suggestion is that the south coast club will put in a higher offer as long as they avoid relegation, which could be a tough ask.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s side currently sit down in 18th spot, one point from safety, and they are going to be involved in a fierce battle for survival, with a load of teams in the potential danger areas at this stage of the season. Promes could have been a man to help the Saints through their battle, but now his arrival depends on survival.
