Premier League outfit Southampton are on the verge of signing Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk from Celtic, according to L’Equipe.
The Saints had a pretty disappointing start to the season and were looking to sign a central defender in light of Florian Gardos’ injury.
And the latest reports suggest they have now completed a deal for Celtic stopper Virgil van Dijk, having agreed to pay €13 million for the talented footballer.
The transfer should be finalised well ahead of today’s transfer deadline, with the 24-year-old signing a five-year contract at St Mary’s.
Virgil van Dijk swapped Groningen for Glasgow Celtic two years ago and he enjoyed a perfect start to his career at Parkhead.
The youngster quickly developed into a key member of the squad, starting 76 Scottish Premier League matches and scoring 9 goals.
That proved enough to earn a lucrative move to Southampton and he will now have an opportunity to test his skills in English Premier League.
