Should they stay in the Premier League, Southampton will attempt to lure Barcelona’s Paco Alcacer to join their ranks, Sky Sports have quoted their own sources.
The Saints have struggled heavily in front of goal this season and scored only 29 goals in 31 league games so far. They believe the out-of-favour Barcelona striker would be a good solution for their problems in that area. They still face a tough battle against relegation though, currently sitting in 18th place, and should they move to the Championship this summer, any such transfer wish would likely become impossible.
Since his move from Valencia in 2016, Alcacer has scored only nine goals in 33 appearances for the Catalan club. He has failed to nail down a starting spot under both Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde, and a move away might be crucial in his attempt to revive his career as he’s extremely unlikely to displace anyone in the superb Barcelona attack.
It remains to be seen if he would be willing to move to Southampton even if they do stay in the Premier League, though stranger things have been known to happen.
