Southampton’s Mane receives work permit

New Southampton signing Saido Mane has received his work permit though he will still have to wait for his debut, the Mail Online understands.

The midfielder signed for Ronald Koeman’s side during the summer transfer window in an £11.8m deal from Red Bull Salzburg.

The Saints’ boss will wait to assess the 22 year olds fitness ahead of Tuesday evening’s League Cup third round clash with Arsenal.

The Senegal international made eighty-seven appearances in all competitions for Salzburg, scoring forty-five goals having joined from French side Metz two summers ago while he has six goals in sixteen appearances for his country.

Despite fears by many that they would struggle after selling a number of their star performers in the close season, Southampton currently sit fourth in the Premier League after taking seven points from their opening four games.

They could even rise to second on Saturday if they beat Swansea City and Aston Villa lose at home to Arsenal.
