Conference side Southport have signed Nathan Ellington on a free transfer, BBC Sport understands.
The veteran striker had been training with Crewe Alexandra where he spent last season, but failed to earn a new deal with the League One side.
He failed to score in eight games for the Alex, while he also failed to hit the net in recent spells with Scunthorpe United and Ipswich Town.
Bar a brief loan spell with Skoda Xanthi in the Greek Super League in 2010, the 32 year old spent his entire fourteen year professional career in the English football league.
His most successful spells came with Bristol Rovers, Wigan Athletic and West Bromwich Albion, whilst he has also turned out for Watford, Derby County and Preston North End.
He goes straight in the match day squad for this evening’s match at Macclesfield Town, and is available at 9/1 to get the first goal of the game.
