Bosnian defender Emir Spahic has signed a new deal with Montpellier that will keep him at the South France outfit till 2014. The 29 year joined Montpellier in the summer from Lokomotiv Moscow and has been one of the architects of Montpellier’s incredible league run this season. Rene Girard’s side are second in the league behind Bordeaux going into this weekend’s round of games, ahead of more fancied teams like Marseille, Lyon, Lille and PSG.
Dubronovik born Spahic started his career with Croatian side NK Zagreb before moving east to Russia in 2004. He had stints with Shinnik Yaroslavi, Torpedo Moscow and Lokomotiv before signing for Montpellier.
Spahic is also captain of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team. The Bosnians narrowly missed out on a World Cup spot after being beaten by Portugal in the playoffs.
