Spain deservedly defeat dirty Dutch to become World Champions

Spain has finally lived up to their immense potential on a football by winning the World Cup. They thoroughly deserved their 1-0 extra-time victory over Holland.

Before the game started I was hoping the Dutch would claim victory but after a few minutes of the game I could no longer support the dirty Dutch side.

Brutal

I have never seen a team play as dirty as Holland did against Spain last night. There is tactics and then there is playing like animals. The Dutch were lucky not to go in at half-time with nine men.

How Howard Webb didn’t send Nigel De Jong off for his Kung-Fu kick on Xabi Alonso I don’t know. He

Then there was the horrible Mark Van Bommel. It seems the only talent he has on a football pitch is to kick the opposition. How he manages to get through a full 90 minutes on a football pitch without getting sent –off is beyond me. It’s a mystery how he has played for so many top clubs.

I have to admit that I felt sorry for Johnny Heitinga as he wasn’t the dirtiest player in the Dutch side but Webb was right to send the Everton star off. Even Dutch legend Johan Cruyff criticised his own countries attitude towards the game. He accused his compatriots of playing ‘anti-football’ and he wasn’t wrong.

Positive

Spain showed a more positive approach right through the game and was less aggressive and dirty than their opponents. Although they suffered a few scares from Dutch attacks I always felt that their style of play would win through.

Style

I mentioned in one of my recent articles that I thought Spain had rather grinded their way through the tournament. In this game they weren’t even given the chance to play nice passing football. However their goal came from a typically superb Spanish move.

The Spanish’s style has become the most admired in the world and they deserve to be World Champions just for the way they play the game. They are without doubt the best team in international football.

Fantastic

Many of the big name stars have failed to show up in this tournament but one player who has been superb for the Spaniards is Barca midfielder Andres Iniesta. I believe the 26 year-old is underrated. His vision, skill and general footballing brain has leaded him to win every trophy there is to win in the game.

However he seems to get overlooked for the big individual awards because of his position. He gets his fair share of goals but his talents lay in his ability to pick a pass and create chances for his teammates.

He deserved to score the winner for his contribution throughout the competition. He should now be considered amongst the best in the world. Maybe after winning the trophy he will finally get the recognition he deserves.

His midfield partner Xavi is decent as well. They have such a good understanding on the pitch and the little playmaker seems to never give the ball away. Barca will be a deadly next season with Xavi, Iniesta, Lionel Messi and David Villa all lining-up for the them.

Emotions

The moment Spain won the trophy was an emotional one for most Spaniards. Spanish keeper Iker Casillas broke down in tears at the end of the game and Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal admitted that he was in tears after the victory.

Spain has waited for a long time for this victory and it was a popular victory. Spain has never seen a celebration like it. Their national side has finally fulfilled their footballing destiny. I’m sure nobody got any sleep in Spain last night.

Even the usual sceptical Spanish fans can now relax and enjoy their victory. Their side has let them down so many times and they have now made up for all those disappointments with the ultimate victory, winning the World Cup.

Return

The Spanish side returned to a hero’s welcome in Madrid. On the flight back to Spain the Spanish players continued their celebrations (click here to view video). This set of players got exactly what they deserve and have every right to celebrate being World Champions. Viva Espana and Gracias for the memories.

well, it wasn’t a spectacle but
    someone had to win it.

Did the Dutch really give it their best shot?
    I don’t think so.

It’s an old football cliche, “if u don’shoot, u dont score.”

Spainish players dive all the time, that’s true. Also great pretenders of being injured. Torres tripped himself and pretended to be injured in the semi final game. Talking about being rough, puyol is the worst of the lot. Holland lost because of Webb favouring the spanish, ultimate playout of toplevel conspiracy.

they were, Kevin, and then there was that dispicable challenge by Puyols. HOW do you not get booked for a tackle like THAT???!!!
I was thinking ITALY was playing, not Spain, with all the flopping and professional fouls.

Couldn’t disagree more man. The Spanish were diving all over the pitch for the full 120 minutes. They were in fact the real disgraceful team.

Van Marwijk and his players should be extremely ashamed of their performance on Sunday. Thanks to that disgraceful display, I will remember Dutch football more for violent, unsportsmanship than “total football”.

From interviews I’ve read, it sounds like Van Marwijk instructed his team to rough up the opposition from the onset. FIFA should analyze this final and fine the Dutch FA. Those “tactics” were borderline criminal and should have been accordingly punished during the match. But its not too late.

De Jong felt “concerned” about his karate kick on Alonso, not because he might have broken his ribs, but because he knew he deserved a red. And after the fact, after De Jong admitted he deserved a red, he still didn’t repent. This selfish attitude is shared by the entire team and their coach.

Robben should stop running his mouth and realize that the Puyol challenge on himself and the corner non call in extra time would never have occurred if Webb had properly called two deserving reds on De Jong and Van Bommel and at least one yellow on Shniejder in the first half.

Its unbelievable that no further action will follow, especially when FIFA president Sepp Blatter even stated that if Webb had called the game according to the “rules of the game” the Dutch would have ended the game with 8 players. How much more blatantly obvious were their violent intentions?

I can’t believe the Dutch team truly feels Webb was the reason for their loss, if anything, he was aiding them by not showing more cards! The world press, FIFA, and their own idol Cruyf has told them how awful they acted.

I guess what’s most disappointing is that this group of professionals can’t act like honorable men and lack the respect to admit the better team won.

One last thought, how ironic is it that the champions were the “cleanest” team too, and they had to overcome these dirty animals to win the trophy they deserve.

    !CAMPEONES CAMPEONES!
