Spain beat Nigeria 2-0 at the World Youth Championship in Egypt to secure a spot in the round of sixteen.
The Spanish had already beaten Tahiti 8-0 in their opener while Nigeria crashed to a surprise 0-1 defeat by Venezuela. For the Africans in particular, it was vital that their second match was won.
It wasn’t meant to be for Nigeria however, as Spain scored the opener trough Francisco Merida after 33 minutes at Cairo’s Al Salam Stadium. The Arsenal midfielder also added a second from the penalty spot in minute 83.
And there was more bad news for Nigeria, as substitute Gbolahan Salami was sent off in the 84th minute, just 22 minutes after his replacement of Stanley Ohawuchi.
