Serie A newcomers SPAL are determined to boost their survival chances this season as they prepare to add fresh blood to their defensive unit this week.
Sportitalia claims SPAL have reached an agreement with Serie B leaders Palermo over a January deal for defender Thiago Cionek who is expected to join the Serie A strugglers imminently.
Polish international has been identified as the top transfer target by SPAL who have thus far conceded 38 goals in 20 league matches.
The 31-year-old defender boasts vast experience in Italian football, having previously played for the likes of Padova and Modena. His current deal with Palermo is set to expire at the end of the season and Serie B leaders were happy to let him leave for a minimal fee.
Cionek notched up 16 Serie B appearances this season, while he also managed to score one goal for Palermo.
