Luciano Spalletti has turned down the chance to replace Abel Resino at the helm of Madrid-based Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Resino was sacked this morning just two days after his side suffered a 4-0 defeat away to Chelsea in the Champions League.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo contacted Spalletti only to be rebuffed.
Cerezo has now hired former Valencia and Benfica Coach Quique Sanchez Flores after also considering Michael Laudrup.
Spalletti resigned from Roma on September 1 after four very successful years in the capital.
He has been linked with Zenit St. Petersburg but many pundits feel he is waiting for the Milan job to become available.
