Dunfermline escaped with a 0-0 draw at home against St Mirren in the Scottish Premier League after the visitors missed a first-half penalty.
The hosts at East End Park were enjoying their first match back in Scottish football’s top flight since 2007, but were fortunate to finish the affair with a point.
Former Rangers and Dundee United striker Steven Thompson had his spot-kick saved by Dunfermline goalkeeper Paul Gallacher late in the opening half.
The penalty was paid after St Mirren’s Thompson was fouled by defender John Potter, causing uproar among the home fans.
Both Dunfermline and St Mirren join a group of eight sides on one point after the opening round of SPL fixtures – with Motherwell and Celtic clear at the top of the table with three points each.
