Motherwell defeated Hearts 1-0 away from home in the only Scottish Premier League fixture played on Tuesday.
Stuart McCall’s side all but sealed third spot on the table with the victory at Tynecastle, courtesy of Michael Higdon’s first-half goal.
The English striker netted after 29 minutes to give the visitors their second successive triumph following a run of four matches without a win.
Motherwell lead fourth-placed Dundee United by eight points, with the latter having three matches still to play.
Hearts are 12 points back from Motherwell in sixth spot.
