St Johnstone moved into fourth spot on the Scottish Premier League table on Wednesday courtesy of a 1-0 away win over Inverness.
Steve Lomas’ men took the chance to climb into the European places, courtesy of a Francisco Sandaza penalty four minutes prior to the half-time break at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium.
The Spaniard scored his 18th goal of the season after Inverness midfielder Gregory Tade fouled Liam Craig in the area.
Tade was the villain for the home side, as his penalty concession came after he missed an ideal chance to fire his side ahead when he shot wide from eight yards out.
Saints looked to double their advantage after the break, as Sandaza’s ball across goal almost found the boot of strike partner Cillian Sheridan.
But they only needed the solitary strike to move three points clear of fifth-placed Dundee United, while Inverness remain in 10th spot, eight points above the drop.
