Rangers narrowed Celtic’s lead on top of the Scottish Premier League to just two points on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox.

Rangers took the lead after 38 minutes, when Steven Whittaker supplied El-Hadji Diouf and the Senegalese winger blasted a right-foot shot past Anssi Jaakola in the Kilmarnock goal.

The visitors levelled proceedings on the hour mark when referee Alan Muir ruled Madjid Bougherra had fouled Kilmarnock defender Tim Clancy inside the box and Jamie Hamill slotted the spot kick past Allan McGregor.

Just when it looked as though Rangers had let a golden opportunity slip, substitute Vladimir Weiss lofted a promising ball into the Kilmarnock box with three minutes to go and Clancy accidentally knocked the ball past Jaakola to hand Rangers all three points.

The win leaves Rangers just two points behind Celtic in second place, and the reigning champions have a game in hand over the league leaders.
