SPL wrap: Celtic celebrate at Motherwell

Celtic opened up a one-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League after a 2-0 win over Motherwell at Fir Park.

In the top-of-the table clash Gary Hooper put the away side ahead in the 32nd minute before an Adam Cummins own goal three minutes later ensured the victory.

The Hoops now lead with 14 points and a game in hand while Motherwell are second with 13.

Elsewhere, St Mirren and Ross County played out a nine-goal thriller at Greenhill Road with St Mirren eventually running out 5-4 winners.

Ross County went into halftime with a 2-1 lead before three goals in 10 second half minutes put the home side ahead 4-2.

Rocco Quinn then scored twice in as many minutes to bring the score back to 4-4 with 10 minutes to play.

Steven Thompson then popped up for the winner in the 89th minute to hand St Mirren a memorable victory.

The win wasn’t enough for St Mirren to hold onto third place however, with Kilmarnock’s 3-1 away win over Hearts allowing them to overtake the Saints.

Cillian Sheridan scored a hat-trick for Kilmarnock with Marius Zaliukas scoring a consolation goal for the home side with two minutes to play.

Inverness proved too good for Dundee United, running out 4-0 winners while Dundee were dispatched at home 3-1 by St Johnstone.

In the day’s earlier game, Aberdeen defeated Hibernian 2-1 to ensure they keep in touch with the league’s frontrunners.
