Portuguese daily newspaper O Jogo has learned that Sporting Lisbon have reached an agreement to sign striker Teofilo Gutierrez from River Plate.
The Lions decided to step up their interest after the player revealed that he wanted to leave Argentina this summer and they have been in talks with the club and striker’s representatives for a couple of weeks.
But, O Jogo understands that the final agreement has finally been reached, allowing the Colombia star to sign a three year contract at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Sporting expect to see star Algerian forward Islam Slimani leave in the summer transfer window and they see Gutierrez as a perfect replacement.
This will be his second spell in Europe after making a total of 17 league appearances for Trabzonspor, scoring 4 goals.
Gutierrez got his career back on track at River Plate, having bagged 22 goals in 47 league outings for the Millionaires.
