Serbian newspaper Vecernje Novosti is reporting that Sporting Lisbon have launched an assault on Red Star defender Marko Petkovic.
The Lions have been keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old for quite a while and they have decided to step up their interest.
According to Vecernje Novosti, Sporting have submitted an official proposal for the full-back’s services worth €800,000.
Marko Petkovic only joined Red Star last summer from OFK Beograd, but he has impressed since nailing down a regular starting berth at Marakana.
The highly rated defender has made a total of 15 league appearances this season, while also featuring in one Serbian Cup match.
Petkovic is the captain of Serbia Under-21 side and he is regarded as one of Serbia’s most talented players.
Crvena Zvezda are unlikely to be interested in selling their prized asset, although a difficult financial situation means they will have to consider any serious offer for his services.
