Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola claims that Sporting CP chiefs were angry with forward Bryan Ruiz for refusing several offers during the summer transfer window.
The Lions made it clear to the Costa Rican that he was not in the first team plans of coach Jorge Jesus and they expected to cash in on him in the summer.
However, despite receiving proposals from Belgium, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Ruiz eventually opted to remain at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
The Costa Rican will be training with the reserves this season and the Lions hope he will find a new club in the January window.
Ruiz, 32, did fairly well since joining the club from Fulham two years ago, scoring 10 goals in 66 Primeira Liga appearances.
