Premier League returnees Newcastle United are actively working on reinforcing their squad for the new campaign.
With the attack line identified as one of the weakest spots in the team, the Magpies were prepared to break the bank in order to land the Sporting CP striker Bas Dost with a €40 million offer submitted for the Dutch international, Portuguese media outlet Abola reports.
Bas Dost moved to Portugal last season from Wolfsburg and was impressive in his first-ever season with Sporting CP having scored impressive 36 goals in 39 competitive appearances.
Newcastle United have set their sights on the prolific forward who boasts a proven scoring record in Germany and Portugal, but Sporting CP are refusing to bulge and are thought to be demanding a full amount stated in the player’s release clause.
The Portuguese giants are asking for €60 million for the 28-year-old and it is unknown if Newcastle United are going to return with an improved offer for this lethal striker.
