According to The Times, Sporting Lisbon are using every possible means to delay head coach Ruben Amorim from leaving the Portugal capital to take over at Manchester United.
United have informed Sporting of their intention to trigger the €10 million release clause in Amorim’s contract and there’s ultimately nothing Sporting can do to prevent the move from happening, but Amorim would apparently like to take his coaching staff with him. For that, Sporting demand another €5 million from United.
Also, the release clause also defines a one-month notice period, which the Primeira Liga side do not want to give up on. Sporting feel that Amorim staying for the November fixtures would help them lay the groundworks for ‘B’ side coach Joao Pereira to take over the first team.
Meanwhile, United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has openly stated he would like to remain at Old Trafford in some capacity once Amorim is appointed.
