Sporting Lisbon are on the verge of reaching an agreement to sign Dutch defender Khalid Boulahrouz, A Bola understands.
The experienced defender became a free agent when his contract with Stuttgart expired in June and is now free to talk to interested clubs.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims Sporting Lisbon chiefs have entered talks with the player’s representatives with a view of bringing the 30-year-old to Joao Alvalade.
Sporting president Godinho Lopes yesterday said that he would soon announce the name of the new central defender and everything suggests Khalid Boulahrouz is the player in question.
The Dutch defender has left Stuttgart after spending four years at Mercedes-Benz Arena, where he was mostly used as a right-back.
The player, who also enjoyed spells with RKC Waalwijk, Hamburger SV and Chelsea, has scored 2 goals in 64 Bundesliga appearances for the Swabians.
