Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are hot on the trail of Ponte Preta full-back Rodinei Marcelo de Almeida, A Bola has learned.
The Lions aim to reinforce both full-back positions in the near future and the 23-year-old has emerged as one of their top targets.
Sporting scouts have been impressed with Rodinei’s performances this season and there is a good chance the club will soon come forward with an official proposal.
A Bola understands that the talented right-sided defender should be available for some €2 million, which is well within their price range.
Rodinei had come through the youth ranks at Avai and he was on club’s payroll until recently while enjoying loan spells with Marcilio Dias, Corinthians, CRAC, Penapolense and Ponte Preta.
He then went on to sign a long-term deal with Ponte Preta, making a total of 70 league appearances for the new club and scoring 2 goals in the process.
