Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon are stepping up their efforts to sign experienced defender Bruno Alves from Fenerbahce, Turkish media outlet Aksam Gazetesi can reveal.
The Lions had a pretty disappointing start to the new campaign and coach Marco Silva is currently on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.
And having been previously linked with a move for Swedish centre-back Alexander Milosevic, Sporting officials seem to have turned their attention to Bruno Alves.
Fenerbahce seem ready to cash in on the 32-year-old after the player fell out with the club chiefs, and the two clubs are already in talks over the switch to Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Alves’ €2.5 million yearly wage could prove to be a problem and he will probably need to accept a pay cut in order to return to Portugal.
Bruno Alves made a name for himself at FC Porto, having spent nine years at Estadio do Dragao before moving to Zenit in 2010.
