Wilson Palacios was left out of Tottenham’s side for their match at Everton on Saturday following reports that the remains of his abducted brother had been discovered in Honduras.

Palacios had travelled to Liverpool with the Spurs squad but returned home after learning of the reports, a Tottenham spokesman said.

Edwin Palacios has been missing since October 2007, when he was kidnapped at his home by assailants who demanded a ransom from the family. He was 16 at the time and his elder brother had just signed for his first English club, Birmingham.

Wilson Palacios subsequently moved to Wigan before joining Tottenham in a 14-million-pound deal in January.
