Spurs back in the race for Lukaku; Atletico Madrid target drops La Liga hint

Tottenham back for Romelu Lukaku

Tottenham are pondering a new bid for Anderlecht striker Romelu Lukaku after they had one offer rejected in the summer.

The Belgian wonderkid is one of the most sought after players in Europe with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal and few other big clubs showing interest in him, while Spurs are also looking into the possibility of signing the 17-year-old.

Tottenham had a £17.5 million bid rejected last summer but Harry Redknapp is prepared to make a new offer for Lukaku in an effort to win the race with more illustrious clubs.

Spurs are also keeping tabs on Ipswich striker Connor Wickham and have also sent chief scout Ian Broomfield to watch Hapoel Tel Aviv forward Itay Shechter play Olympique Lyon last month, as they search to add more quality to their front line.

With Robbie Keane likely to leave White Hart Lane in the near future, Redknapp is keen on adding another striker to challenge Crouch, Defoe and Pavlychenko for the starting spot.

Atletico Madrid target hints at La Liga move

Atletico Madrid officials are on alert after Holland international midfielder Ibrahim Afellay said he would like to play in La Liga.

PSV’s influential midfielder confirmed his potential by scoring a brace in Holland’s victory over Sweden in midweek and he remains the long-term target for los Colchoneros.

The 24-year-old has already outgrown the Dutch championship and he looks likely to leave PSV in January. Meanwhile, Affelay has hinted a switch to La Liga is on the cards.

“The Spanish league is the championship that I like and I never said I would just play in (Real) Madrid or Barcelona.

“I am ambitious but I have both feet on the ground.”

Afellay’s contract expires at the end of the season and PSV are likely to jump at the opportunity to cash in on him in January, with Atletico Madrid looking to buy a world-class player at a cut-down price.

Agent: Cissokho not moving to Milan

The agent of Lyon defender Aly Cissokho has rejected the claims that his client is on his way to Milan.

The French defender was on the verge of signing for the Rossoneri last summer and he is again heavily linked with a move to San Siro with reports from Italy suggesting Milan are ready to splash €15 million on the player in January.

Nonetheless, Cissokho’s agent, Fabrizio Ferrari has ruled out such a move.

“There is nothing with Milan,” Fabrizio Ferrari was quoted as saying. “I also don’t believe that they are ready to make a €15m bid in January.

“With regard to the summer market, though, we’ll see. Aly holds no grudges about the past.

“There is a lot of interest around him right now, but he has never stated that he wants to leave Lyon.”

Milan chiefs are now regretting the fact they opted against signing Cissokho last summer from Porto when as he subsequently moved to Lyon, where he quickly realized his potential, and they seem to be ready to make amends for the mistake by launching another attack on the French international.

I’m sorry Affelay but seriously go somewhere where you won’t play third fiddle to everyone else. Barcelona and Real Madrid don’t NEED you. Go somewhere that you will fit into. You’re an idiot otherwise.
